MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCSC) – Berkeley County officials are tackling affordable housing in the county with a new funding program.
The Home Investment Partnerships or HOME program is set to bring more affordable housing to the community. The application is open to developers or community housing development organizations that will plan and build individual homes or rental units. Developers and community housing development organizations are required to be in good standing with the state and within the county.
Leaders are using just over $1.7 million in grant funds for the projects.
This program is a part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developmentās national HOME program. The program grants funds annually to state and local governments to provide housing for families that qualify as low income.
It targets households that sit at 80% or lower of the Area Median Income. The highest income limitfor a family of four in Berkeley County sits at just over $84,000. …
