The agreement of reforms for the police department is in limbo in federal court, leaving people concerned it dies without a judge’s signature.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Roots 101 African American Museum made space for the community to hear from panelists on Louisville’s consent decree, hosted by Families United.

The consent decree is a guideline of reforms for the police department, an agreement made between the city and Department of Justice (DOJ).

The family of Breonna Taylor were in attendance at the event along with panelists who were behind bringing the consent decree to the city. They’re concerned about the agreement, they said, is a measure to keep people and the city accountable, as it sits in federal court.

“I don’t understand saying, ‘Judge, this agreement violates our contract.’,” panelist and attorney Lonita Baker said. “So your contract means you get to violate our civil rights?”
