The Federal Emergency Management Agency opened a disaster recovery center in Lauren County on Oct. 29, 2024 and they closed nearly three months later on Jan. 18
DUBLIN, Ga. — Four months ago, Hurricane Helene swept through the southeast, including Central Georgia. Thousands of people lost power, many lost their homes and six people lost their lives to the deadly storm.
Laurens County was one of the locations hit the hardest, as many people in and outside of Dublin struggled just to get around days after the storm had passed through.
As the community needed help and support, the Federal Emergency Management Agency took over the old West Laurens Middle School building and transformed it into a disaster recovery center in late October.
After months of assisting the community, on Jan. 18 at 6 p.m., the FEMA center closed down, closing the final center in Central Georgia.
