FREED gangster Liam Byrne has been mockingly branded an MI5 agent after his release from prison, we can reveal.

Byrne was taunted as a “rat” on social media ­platforms following his release from Belmarsh Prison three months after he received a five-year prison sentence for his role in a weapons ­importation plot.

It’s understood the decision to release him was made due to overcrowding issues in UK prisons and because he has been in custody since June 2023.

In one post, his face was plastered on to a fake MI5 certificate with the words “proudly presented to Covert Human Intelligence Source Agent for MI5”.
