Rescue One to give away bales of straw in Springfield to help outdoor pets stay warm during freezing temperatures [Video]

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – A semi-truck full of straw will be given away to help the Springfield community keep their outdoor pets warm amid freezing temperatures.

Rescue One, a local nonprofit animal rescue and veterinary clinic, is partnering with SOMO Farm and Ranch Supply to giveaway free straw for those wanting to provide their outdoor pets a safe and comfortable space this coming week.

The event will be held at SOMO Farm and Ranch Supply, 2850 W. Kearney Street, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday.

Colby Hodges, a veterinary technician at Rescue One, shared why straw is the best option for pets dealing with cold weather.

“The dog house does great for blocking the wind, but nothing for insulation. Blankets and things like that can get moisture accumulated in them and that doesn’t help keep anybody warm. So the straw is a really good alternative,” said Hodges.
