Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on home, celebrates President Carters legacy [Video]

MCCLELLANVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) – East Cooper Habitat for Humanity held a groundbreaking ceremony Friday to celebrate a new chapter for a deserving family and honor the legacy of former President Jimmy Carter.

The groundbreaking marked Habitat for Humanity’s third and final home of affordable houses built on Society Road in McClellanville.

Friends and family of the new homeowner, volunteers and local community members gathered at the construction site for the ceremonial groundbreaking.

Development Director of East Cooper Habitat for Humanity, Kristen Jewell, said President Carter had a profound impact on Habitat for Humanity and the communities it has served over the years.

She said through his lifelong commitment to community service, President Carter helped provide affordable housing to the less fortunate. As both a volunteer and advocate, she said Carter worked alongside thousands of families.
