The Spokane Police Department currently operates their own emergency dispatch system, but the new move will prohibit them to join SREC in the future.
Newly appointed police chief made comments on the decision in a city meeting on Friday.
“Chief Hall was disappointed by the motion to recommend that the Board of County Commissioners force the City of Spokane to establish its own Public Safety Answering Point,” the City of Spokane Police said in a social media post.
The SPD claims that they have partnered with SREC and in recent discussions they addressed operational requirements needed for SPD in contrast to the They noted that the police department serves with different capacities then fire department who will be affected the most by this decision.
