LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Dozens of kids in Lincoln are dressing a little warmer after being given some brand new winter necessities on Thursday afternoon.
For the annual Subaru Loves to Help event, DuTeau Subaru teamed up with United Way of Lincoln and Lancaster County to give out coats, shoes and socks to kids with The Salvation Army of Lincoln’s after school program.
Each one got to pick out their own attire, all of which was provided by the national nonprofit Operation Warm.
Maura Penas, United Way’s director of community impact, said it’s all about helping the kids find joy and stay warm during the winter.
“I just helped a kid find a pair of shoes that he wanted and he was so excited to have that new pair of shoes that he didn’t want to take them off,” she said. “He’s just walking around feeling really proud of himself and that’s a great, great feeling for every …
