Nebraska lawmakers look to cut red tape in 2025 session [Video]

LINCOLN — Nebraska lawmakers plan to introduce a group of bills aimed at cutting red tape and modernizing governmental regulations as a way of tightening the belt in the face of a challenging budget.

The Platte Institute, a conservative think-tank, previewed the bills, most of which have yet to be introduced, at a press conference in the Capitol rotunda Thursday afternoon. Senators have until Wednesday to introduce the bills they want considered for the 2025 legislative session.

One such bill, Legislative Bill 29 introduced by State Sen. Danielle Conrad of Lincoln, would codify a 2017 executive order from then-Gov. Pete Ricketts, now a U.S. senator, requiring executive agencies to review the necessity of current regulations under their agency every three years. She said it has been seven years since the last cleanup.
