WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Coastal Land Trust received a $1,000,00 grant to purchase the southern end of Topsail Island.

The donation came from the National Coastal Wetlands Conservation Grants program.

This amount helped the non-profit conservation group to reach its goal of $8 million.

The South End was privately owned and Coastal Land Trust will move forward with buying the property so they can prevent future developments and protect the area’s ecosystem.

The community also supported the “Save the South End” project so they can continue to enjoy the area.

“There aren’t that many opportunities where a person can come and park and walk at this point and see one of our beautiful inlets, all the bird life, and wildlife habitat, and enjoy the outdoors with an unobstructed view,” says William Snyder, volunteer for the Coastal Land Trust.
