FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTUU) – Registration is now open for the 2025 Citizen Engagement Academy, a free civic education class taught by the City of Fairbanks.
The annual event, which started in 2023 and is now in its third year, involves one 2.5-hour class each Thursday for eight weeks, starting on March 6.
City Clerk Danyielle Snider said the class was first developed to engage citizens with their local government.
“A lot of folks get the city and borough mixed up, the services we provide, the authority that we have, those kinds of things. It really gets down on the small level and tells you all the details about what each city department does, how taxpayer dollars fund those services, what do the boots on the ground look like, all those things so people really have a better idea of their government that’s closest to them,” she said.
