Upstate school district votes unanimously to move forward with artificial turf [Video]

The Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees voted unanimously Tuesday to proceed with transitioning high school game fields from natural grass to artificial turf. Director of Media Relations Tim Waller said the administration recommends committing $24,060,010 of the $236.6 million unassigned general fund balance to offset the cost of converting these grass stadium fields to artificial turf.Greenville County is the largest school district in South Carolina. Supporters said consistent field conditions and size can impact success and help in preparing for the state championship game. Supporters also pointed out that turf is durable, low maintenance and can be used in various weather conditions and for longer hours.
