Lincolns American Job Center helps 40 people earn CDLs, aims to support more [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird announced Monday that 40 community members have successfully earned their commercial driver’s licenses through the American Job Center’s CDL program.

The initiative, launched in 2023 through funding from the American Rescue Plan, was a collaboration between the Mayor’s administration and the American Job Center. To qualify, participants had to enroll in one of three programs: the Adult Program, Dislocated Worker Program, or Youth Employment Support Services Program.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Gaylor Baird reflected on the achievement and shared plans to help another 40 residents.

“This milestone highlights the City of Lincoln’s commitment to helping our community members and our businesses grow the great life together,” Mayor Gaylor Baird said. “By credentialing individuals with commercial drivers licenses, we support these individuals economic mobility and help fill a workforce need of our local businesses.”
