Homeless man survives snowstorm, highlights gaps in New Albany’s support system [Video]

NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Billy Watson, an unhoused, New Albany man, was found frostbitten and hypothermic by authorities after Kentuckiana was hit with an historic snowstorm.

“I’m praying for Billy,” homeless outreach advocate Paul Stensrud said. “We don’t want to see another Billy out here.”

Watson’s sister Madeline Hamby wrote on social media: “My brother Billy Watson was found Tuesday after the storm. He was unresponsive and suffered from hypothermia.”

She said Watson was found unresponsive in New Albany by the New Albany Police Department. She said he had a low body temperature and frostbite on his feet. He was then transported to the hospital and put on a ventilator. In an update on Saturday night, she said he is recovering extremely well.
