Vancouver police are reminding the public that they will never call and ask for money.

The Vancouver Police Department says it received several reports of scammers “spoofing” its non-emergency phone number on Friday.

The callers claimed to be calling from the VPD and asked for personal information and, in some cases, money.

In response, the department posted a reminder on social media, asking people to be aware of the scam.

“The police in Vancouver – or anywhere in the country, for that matter – will never call and ask for money,” said VPD spokesperson Const. Tania Visintin.

People who are unsure if a call is legitimately from the VPD should hang up and call the department’s non-emergency number – 604-717-3321 – to confirm.
