Kohl’s said it plans to close 27 “underperforming” stores across the U.S. by April 2025.
The company, headquartered in the Milwaukee suburb of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, on Thursday announced the closures. It accounts for under 3% of its more than 1,150 stores.
Kohl’s said all associates were informed of the closures and offered a “competitive severance package or the ability to apply to other open roles at Kohl’s.”
“As we continue to build on our long-term growth strategy, it is important that we also take difficult but necessary actions to support the health and future of our business for our customers and our teams,” Tom Kingsbury, Kohl’s chief executive officer, said in a statement.
Kohl’s is the latest retail chain to announce store closures. Macy’s this week also announced the closure of 66 locations in 2025.
