Man arrested after hitting two MPD cars, carjacking attempt on Macon Road [Video]

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is in police custody following a chase in which two cars belonging to the Memphis Police Department on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025.

Officers were pursuing Trae Payne, 29, wanted in connection to multiple car thefts and burglaries in the 4200 block of Macon Road at around 4:30 p.m., according to a press release from MPD.

Upon arrival, Payne used the car to ram into two occupied MPD cars and fled the scene shortly after, said MPD.

MPD officers continued to chase Payne near Warford Street and Mount Olive Road, where the suspect then began running on foot, leaving his car in drive.
