What Going There? New residential community headed to Dothan [Video]

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – In due time, the area of land sitting on Murphy Mill Road just across from Providence Christian School in Dothan will be filled with single-family homes.

The 120 acres are expected to feature lots around 15,000 square feet or larger in size.

The Dothan Planning Commission approved the change of the land from agricultural to residential in September. The property was annexed in August.

Traffic concerns have already come forward from residents who use Brannon Stand Road and Murphy Mill Road frequently.

“Well, more houses always translates to more traffic,” said Todd McDonald, Dothan Director of Planning & Development. “I think what you need to know is does the street and intersection have the capacity to accept the increase in traffic volume that will result from the additional houses. That is a traffic engineering problem. Public Works will look at that in the subdivision review process. …
