COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina education leaders said Wednesday they’re trying to see how much of their information might be compromised after PowerSchool, a major cloud computing tool for schools, suffered a data breach.
The South Carolina Department of Education said they were told late Tuesday by PowerSchool of a cybersecurity breach involving its PowerSource portal. The agency said they were told the beach led to unauthorized access to certain consumer data from PowerSchool’s student information systems.
The state said PowerSchool told them personally identifiable information was compromised. It’s unclear what exact information could have been taken, and the Department of Education said they’re still working to determine the full scope of the breach.
