One week after the Bourbon St tragedy, city officials are looking ahead to ways in which the city can improve its planning for and response to such an event.

With the city set to host many major events throughout the year, strategies will need to be implemented soon.

District D Councilman Eugene Green spoke with WWL’s Tommy Tucker on the city council’s commitment to safety.

“We will have a series of hearings. First with public works to understand the situation with the bollards.”

He says hearings will continue all aimed at improving safety plans, implementation, and response.

Councilman Green also says Chief Anne Kirkpatrick has asked to contract a special consultant with knowledge regarding large crowd logistics and terror attack preparations.

He says the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation will contact former New York and Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton for the role.
