The bus service for the Greater Bangor area is moving to a fixed-stop service and implementing new technology.

BANGOR, Maine — The Community Connector is making some changes in the new year. 

The bus service, which serves Bangor, Brewer, Hampden, Veazie, Orono, Old Town, and the University of Maine, is moving to a fixed-stop service and incorporating some new technology, according to a press release from the City of Bangor, which owns and operates the Community Connector. 

Starting Monday, Jan. 6, buses will stop only at fixed, designated bus stops. That means riders will no longer have to flag down a bus. 

“This is part of a broader effort to ensure buses arrive at their stops on time and minimize wait times for riders, thereby improving efficiency and reliability,” the press release stated. 

There are more than 300 bus stops in the Community Connector’s service area. The fixed stops were picked based on passenger behavior, density, available infrastructure, and safety, according to the press …
