Lacey Boyd New Years Day Parade celebrates 20 years [Video]

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A parade named after a husband and wife wanting change for their community celebrated a milestone in west Montgomery on New Year’s Day.

For 20 years, Fairview Avenue has been filled with guests and floats every year as part of the annual Lacey Boyd New Year’s Day Parade.

It was created not just to bring the community together, but to welcome and celebrate growth.

“It’s political. We want the politicians to come back to west Montgomery, a community that received very, very little economic development,” said the parade’s founder, William Boyd.

The extra attention is paying off this year. Boyd says the area is welcoming a $2 million grant that he says will bring more jobs, which is something those who live close by want.

Those who came to the celebration say they witness growth every year, especially the younger generation.
