City officials proposing new ordinance they say could be a solution to affordable housing in Colorado Springs [Video]

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -According to city officials, a new ordinance is being proposed that would reduce restrictions on building Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) on single-family properties.

“What we hope is that more people will avail themselves of the ability to use their property to construct an ADU whether it’s integrated into their current unit or adjacent to it,” said Kevin Walker, City Planning Director

ADUs consist of guesthouses, tiny homes, and housing extensions. According to the city, the ordinance would be in response to state legislation allowing ADUs anywhere on single-family properties. The Colorado Springs change would reduce regulations on square footage, and zoning codes, and eliminate the necessity to provide parking for them.
