Netflix Takes VMware to Court Over Patent Dispute YugaTech [Video]

Netflix has filed a lawsuit against VMware, a Broadcom-owned virtualization company, alleging unauthorized use of its patented technologies.

The streaming giant claims VMware has “willfully and deliberately” infringed on its innovations, continuing to integrate them into key products without permission.

The case has been brought to a federal court in California.

Netflix’s complaint outlines that VMware products like vSphere Foundation and VMware Cloud Foundation, as well as cloud services on platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, rely on technologies protected under Netflix’s patents. While Netflix is seeking financial damages, the exact amount remains undisclosed.

This latest lawsuit adds another chapter to an ongoing feud between Netflix and Broadcom. Back in 2018, Broadcom accused Netflix of patent infringement in a separate legal case that spans multiple countries, including the US, Germany, and the Netherlands.
