YWCA Spokane seeking community donations to meet fundraising goal to help local domestic violence survivors | News [Video]

SPOKANE, Wash. — The YCWA in Spokane is hoping Spokanites will help them reach their goal in raising money to support local survivors of domestic violence.

A group of donors gave $100,000 and is now challenging the community to match the donation.

As of Tuesday, the community has raised $80,000, bringing the total to $180,000.

YWCA is hoping they can raise the remaining $20,000 from the community before the end of the year.

“At the holidays, the incidences of domestic violence are greater, also with the cold weather, there’s greater need for shelter,” said Jeri Self-Merritt, YWCA Spokane Board Member.

The money raised will go toward services like the 24-hour help line, therapy, legal aid and the domestic violence safe shelter.
