WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Brainard and Helke Funeral Homes presented a $9,000 check to the Wausau School District’s Nutrition Services on Tuesday to help reimburse the school meal debt.
The funeral homes said they chose this cause because they wanted to help many people, and they felt it was underappreciated in the area.
“Funeral directors by nature are servants and we try to take care of the families that we serve, and we wanted to take care of our community and knowing that the kids can focus on their education and school and their activities and not having to worry about eating,” Location Manager and Funeral Director for Brainard and Helke Funeral Homes Shannon Dunn said.
Before the donation, the district had around $12,000 in school meal debt.
