AU GRES, Mich. (WJRT) – An Arenac County community is coming together, after over 30 people were displaced by an apartment fire in Au Gres early Sunday morning.
Firefighters were on the scene for over 11 hours at Riverside Manor Apartments, battling the flames that would ultimately displace 16 families just in time for the holidays.
“We had to get out the window. And I had to break the window and get our kids out. We had to jump out. It was traumatizing,” recalled Kayla Butts.
Kayla Butts and Travis Noe were two of those left without a home after the fire. They lost everything when it broke out Sunday morning.
“Devastating, most definitely. Everything just happened so fast and you don’t really realize what you lose until it happens to you,” said Travis Noe.
