LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – For the fourth year, the Lincoln Police Department and The Malone Center have partnered to spread joy across Lincoln through their annual Random Acts of Kindness initiative.
Every year, officers take envelopes filled with $300 cash and hand them out to strangers while on patrol or during interactions with the community.
There’s also a number of families chosen by officials at community centers across town who receive the envelopes.
Ishma Valenti, The Malone Center’s director of community engagement, said the money comes from a variety of anonymous donors, which the center then gives to LPD to distribute. This year there was $18,000 to be given out.
“When you see the reactions of people, just so happy, so appreciative,” Valenti said. “It’s totally magical and life changing for both parties, including police. Because they get to do something that’s truly giving, truly amazing and just positive.”
