The Association of Informal Businesses Sector of South Africa (AIBSSA) has called on South Africans not to obstruct foreign nationals who wish to register their businesses.

The association says the registration will ensure that they comply and contribute meaningfully to development in communities and create jobs.

The deadline for the registration of food outlets including tuck shops, also called spaza shops, has been extended to the end of February next year.

The association’s Gershon Mosiane says. “We welcome the position adopted by the government not to impose a quota on foreigners to own spaza shops. This set an incorrect narrative on the government’s position on the issue. AIBSSA commits to vigorously work to educate our members on the registration process to ensure that they comply and meet the extended deadline period.”
