Mike Henderson resigns from head coaching position [Video]

It’s the end of an era for Powhatan football. 

Mike Henderson, head coach of Powhatan’s program since 2019, is stepping down from his leadership role with the Indians, announcing the decision through a statement from Powhatan Athletic’s X account on Thursday afternoon. 

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the coaching staff, administration, and especially all the players I’ve had the opportunity to coach at Powhatan High School for making these past 6 years such a special time in my life,” Henderson said in his statement. “It was always a dream of mine to be the head coach in a community I call home, and it has exceeded every expectation I had. However, that time has come to an end for me, as today I am resigning as head football coach.
