NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans homicide count stands at 124 for the 2024 year as of Wednesday morning, NOPD Supt. Anne Kirkpatrick said.
That means the number of homicides is down roughly 33 percent over last year, but in the last month, there has been an uptick in high-profile shootings.
In a press conference on Wednesday, NOPD gave major updates on the department’s progress solving the violent crimes.
“We are going in the right direction, and I want our community to feel safe, to align with the reality,” Kirkpatrick said, “And the reality is, you are safer.”

NOPD announced on Wednesday they have made additional arrests, bringing the total number to three arrests.
