Korean firm makes dog blood in vitro for transfusions [Video]

Seoul-based bio startup, Artblood, has been working to advance veterinary medicine and biomedical research. It specialized in the development of cell-based artificial blood production.

Recently, it achieved a major milestone: the world’s first successful in vitro production of dog blood.

Scientists at Artblood collaborated with Hanyang University and Gyeongsang National University for this milestone. 

The successful creation of lab-grown dog blood provides a promising solution for veterinary medicine, offering a reliable and ethical blood supply for transfusions.

Reportedly, researcher Park Seong-ah presented the findings at the CELL BIO 2024 international conference in San Diego.

This conference is a collaborative effort between the American Society for Cell Biology and the European Molecular Biology Organization.

In-vitro blood production is a cutting-edge field in biomedical research that involves cultivating blood cells outside of a living organism. This innovative approach, primarily explored for human medical applications, is now extending its reach to animal health.
