IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – CommUnity in Iowa City is both collecting and distributing food as part of the Project Holiday event.
Through the annual initiative, CommUnity works to help as many people as possible get food for their holiday meals. People can come in to get any or all of the ingredients they need.
”Everyone likes to celebrate with their family for the holidays and not everyone has food so this is a way that they can put nice things on the table and get to do what all the rest of us like to do,” Shari Ellis, a CommUnity volunteer of 18 years, said.
This week’s drive lasts through Saturday. While they plan to feed more than 1,500 families, food will be given out on a first come first serve basis.
