BANGOR — Community members got to take a turn at wood-turning at the United Technologies Center in Bangor Saturday.
No matter the skill level, people of all ages were encouraged to carve, turn and learn for the Eastern Maine Woodturners Turn-Around and Wood Auction.
Those involved say wood-turning is both a hobby and a skill used to craft and shape pieces of wood, and this annual event helps to pass it on to the next generation of Mainers.
“A lot of our membership, including myself, are getting on — we want to pass it along to others. So when we have kids turning pens and bowls and things like that,” said Michael Kagan, president of the Eastern Maine Woodturners Association. “That’s really what we’re about.”
The auction that follows the event raises money to support the United Technologies Center.
