Omaha Westside linebacker and Nebraska signee Christian Jones was named the winner of this year’s high school Butkus Award, awarded to the nation’s top linebacker.
Jones, a four-star linebacker and top 2025 recruit in Nebraska by most recruiting services, helped lead Westside to a state runner-up finish this past high school season. Across 13 games, he recorded 96 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles and a pair of interceptions.
“Christian had a fantastic high school career,” Warriors coach Paul Limongi said in a press release. “… Christian was fast, explosive, and tough. In addition, he was an excellent teammate and leader who always brought out the best in people. Christian is truly one of the best players I ever coached.”
The Butkus Award began solely as a collegiate honor in 1985, but expanded to the high school and professional levels in 2008.
