Experience winter solstice at Newgrange through virtual tour at Fleischmann Planetarium [Video]

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – The community is invited to tour Newgrange in Ireland during the winter solstice without leaving Reno. The Fleischmann Planetarium is hosting a virtual tour inside the dome to share the history of the Newgrange Passage Tomb.

Willie Purchert, president of the Sons and Daughters of Erin (SADOE); Paul McFarlane, director of the Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center; and Howard Goldbaum, associate professor of journalism (Emeritus) at the Reynolds School of Journalism at UNR, stopped by Morning Break to talk about the significance of Newgrange in Irish culture.

Built 5000 years ago, the entrance of Newgrange Passage Tomb is aligned with the first rays of the rising sun on the Winter Solstice, sending a beam of light into the innermost recess of the tomb.
