With slimmer Republican majorities, will there be more bipartisanship in Wisconsins legislature? [Video]

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – About a third of Wisconsin’s Assembly will be newly elected members this legislative session. Legislative leaders on both sides of the aisle are highlighting collaboration for the upcoming term.

“We’re going to have to make sure we do a lot of work, a lot of conversation,” Republican Rep. Scott Krug, the assistant majority leader said after the first GOP Caucus in November.

“My door is open. I’m hoping that there’s more conversations going forward,” Democrat State Sen. Dianne Hesselbein, the minority leader, echoed in the Democrat press conference.

How likely is that compromise and collaboration?

“Wisconsin legislators know gridlock best,” Mike Wagner, a journalism professor at UW-Madison said. “I think that that’s the most likely outcome in the early days.”

On Wednesday, Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin teamed up with Republican Sen. and VP-elect J.D. Vance to pass a bill protecting U.S. manufacturing.
