North Peace SAR tasked with Halfway River search amid missing persons investigations [Video]

FORT ST. JOHN –North Peace Search and Rescue have released a photo on social media confirming they have been tasked with searching an “area of interest” near the Halfway River.

North District RCMP Media Relations could not yet confirm whether the search is for Jim Barnes, who has been missing since October 18th.

However, sources tell CJDC-TV News that the Chetwynd RCMP requested the search take place.

It comes less than a week after an online petition sparked renewed calls to continue the search efforts that were suspended on October 25th. 

The iPetition ‘Bring Jim (James) Barnes Home’ has since garnered over 5300 signatures.

The search also comes only two days after a dog found 200 kilometres from where Barnes went missing was positively identified as Murphy, who was with him at the time he went missing while grouse hunting in the Groundbirch area. 

Barnes is one of two men missing from the Peace Region.
