7-Year-Old holds auction to raise money for children in need [Video]

MACHIAS, Maine (WABI) – A 7-year-old girl spread Christmas cheer Sunday by raising funds for Christmas presents.

Aubree McManus from Washington County held an auction at the Machias Savings Bank Community Building.

She and her mother, Brittany, organized the auction as a way to get presents for children in need.

Brittany says that Aubree was inspired to help by seeing the amount of names on the giving magic tree at Brittany’s workplace.

Aubree decided that she wanted to help as many of those names as she could.

“We just hope that people seeing how much a little girl, a seven year old, can do that hopefully it will encourage other people to get out and think of others, especially during the holiday,” said Brittany.

Sunday’s auction ended with $700, but community donations pushed them up to well over Aubree’s $1,000 goal.
