Kalona Disaster Relief plans second trip to help hurricane victims in North Carolina [Video]

KALONA, Iowa (KCRG) – A group in Kalona is gathering donations of food, toiletries and toys to take to hurricane victims in North Carolina.

This will be the second trip Kalona Disaster Relief is taking to help people in the Asheville area. Kalona Disaster Relief delivered two semi-trucks of generators, water, food and blankets and more in October. “It was amazing. It was mind blowing. It was just, the outreach of the community coming in and bringing supplies and products and just everybody reaching out… It’s just a you have to be there to experience it,” says Shaena Beachy of Champion Metal Supply, where the first Fill the Truck event was held.

“If you didn’t know the community, you might be surprised, but I know the Kalona community and the whole just, you know, the grassroots efforts from Eastern Iowa. I mean, these are good people, good hearty people, and they’re not afraid of a lot of hard work,” says Freeman …
