Lincoln soup kitchen raises funds to fight hunger [Video]

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Community Action of Lancaster and Saunders Counties is asking for donations to support The Gathering Place Soup Kitchen in Lincoln.

With the support from a variety of local funders and businesses, now until Dec. 31, donations to The Gathering Place are being matched $1 for $1.

For the sixth year, the Acklie Charitable Foundation is leading support in matching each gift dollar-for-dollar.

“The Gathering Place supports our neighbors in their times of need,” Halley Kruse, Vice President and Director of Acklie Charitable Foundation, said. “Not only by providing free, hot and nutritious meals, but also by fostering camaraderie and hope.”

The kitchen that is located at a former home in between 14th and 16th streets on E streets serves free meals every evening from 5-6 p.m. to Lincoln’s neighbors who are experiencing homelessness or food insecurity.
