The father and son charged with tearing down a controversial mural came face to face Wednesday with the man who put it up. The mural went up in September on the side of a building near Holton and Locust streets and depicted the star of David interlaced with a swastika. The mural sparked outrage, and at the time, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson told WISN 12 News he would like to see the owner take it down. In October, prosecutors charged Peter and Zechariah Mehler, father and son, with criminal damage to property, a felony. Investigators say they took an ax, sledgehammer and pry-bar to the mural.
