On Monday night, the Watertown Unified School Board voted on a new policy for students in the district. Community members packed into Riverside Middle School for the meeting. The school cafeteria reached capacity before the meeting even began, leaving some parents and community members waiting in the entryway of the school. A line of public commenters stretched through the cafeteria, each speaker signed up to speak on the the board’s consideration of administrative procedural guidelines for gender support plans. “I believe that a girl should be in the girl’s restroom and a boy should be in the boys restroom,” one public commenter said.
