ASD holds their last in-person conversation about closing, combining, repurposing schools [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Anchorage School District held their last in-person “Community Conversation” to hear feedback about the idea to close, combine and repurpose some elementary schools Saturday at Bartlett High School. The district is calling the initiative “Rightsizing ASD.”

ASD administration, school board members and parents gathered at the school for Saturday’s session, which was the third of five total conversations. The last two will be held virtually Monday.

The conversations are the next step in the process after ASD released a list of seven schools being considered for closure, consolidation or repurposing earlier this month.

“I feel like these community conversations have maybe caused the administration to pump the brakes a little bit,” ASD parent Adrienne Michel said. “When the recommendations came out, everything felt very final, kind of a ‘this is what we’re doing, and this is how we’re doing it.‘”
