Former Mayor of Summerville dies [Video]

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) – The town of Summerville has announced the death of its former mayor, Wiley Johnson.

Johnson served as mayor from 2016 until 2019. The town says he died Thursday.

Wiley’s wife, Susan Johnson, confirmed he passed after a three-year-long battle with Leukemia.

“He faced this illness with the same type of courage that he carried throughout life,” Susan said. “If he believed in a principal, no matter what tidal wave came against him, he stood firm for that principal. He knew who he was, he knew what he believed and he represented that throughout his life and even through his death.”

Susan said when her husband was mayor, he was a strong voice for the people of Summerville, and that transparency with the public was very important while he served in the leadership role.
