Hermann city official responds to tourists after downtown fire | News [Video]

HERMANN — The two-story building that contained the Attic Antique Mall and Dappleton Hotel was engulfed by flames Monday morning, and the cause of the fire remains unknown. Firefighters are calling the building a total loss due to structural damage. 

A primary fear on social media after the fire was if downtown tourism would suffer at all. The charred building sits in the heart of 1st street alongside businesses like Downtown Deli & Custard Shop and Doxie Slush. 

Hermann Director of Tourism and Economic Development Tammy Bruckerhoff did agree the loss of this establishment was tough for the community.

“Losing one of our downtown businesses is just heartbreaking for all of us and will definitely affect us,” Bruckerhoff said. 

The Attic Antique Mall in particular was a massive draw for visitors of Hermann. The store included multiple vendors selling items such as comic books, art pieces and other collectibles. The …
