Milwaukee County medical crews are now offering blood transfusions in the field for critical trauma patients. This comes as The Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management said they want to continue to advance prehospital care. Prior to this initiative, patients would have to wait for lifesaving treatment until arriving at the hospital, something the release said could have a mortality rate of 32% after waiting for 30 minutes.The news release added Milwaukee County’s EMS system will be the first in Wisconsin, and one of the first fire-based EMS systems in the nation, to offer this new care in the field.”This initiative is a testament to our commitment to pioneering improvements in emergency care, empowering our first responders, and, most importantly, saving lives.
