BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A tire block and an empty dirt lot are all that remain after a trailer was stolen, but not just any trailer, the “Thousand Flags” trailer and every flag in it.
“We get thousands of people and their families, veterans and first responders at the Park at Riverwalk,” said Director of the “Thousand Flags” program, Denise Hayes. “It unifies this community, that weekend, and it’s significant because everything that comprises out of that is in that trailer, and I’m sorry.”
Denise Haynes usually feels pride over the “Thousand Flags” ceremony honoring our military heroes killed in battle. Now, she feels despair.
“They cut the chain link fence, curled it back and they literally drug the trailer and you can see the tire marks,” said Haynes.
