Gov. McMaster announces new SCDHHS director [Video]

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster announced Wednesday afternoon that a new person is taking over as the director of the Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS).

Eunice Medina, 43, lives in Columbia. She previously served as SCDHHS Chief of Staff and Deputy Director of Programs, will be transitioning into the role. Medina will be succeeding Robert Kerr, who announced his retirement after serving over three years as director.

“We have a responsibility to these individuals and Medicaid to better streamline how services are accessed,” said Medina during the press conference. “We can do this by continuing to support the disability community, by not only investing in those who provide care, but funding more slots for Medicaid programs to allow more people to receive care in their community.”

Medina now will need to be confirmed by the South Carolina Senate.
