BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Thursday marks a significant day for Jefferson County with the grand opening of the Smucker’s facility. This new plant will create hundreds of well-paying jobs and generate additional tax revenue for the county.
Jefferson County Commission President Jimmie Stephens recalls when the property was solely used for cattle grazing. Now, it will be home to the largest Smucker’s facility, which is expected to bring in about $1 billion by the end of 2026.
Stephens notes that getting to this point has been a long process, but he and the community are extremely excited. He emphasizes that this development will transform lives in west Jefferson County and enhance the quality of life for future generations, thanks to the creation of several hundred jobs. Additionally, improvements will be made to nearby roadways to accommodate the anticipated increase in traffic.
